Sparta - Sparta residents will be able to watch ducks race down the Wallkill River at Sparta Day on Saturday, May 21. For the fourth year, the Kiwanis Club of Sparta will launch 600 rubber ducks at Dykstra Park. At the finish line, below the library, the ducks will be scooped from the river with the top free finishers rewarding their sponsors with American Express Gift Certificates of up to $500. Tickets are for sale now or at Sparta Day for $5 each. Sparta Kiwanis has been serving Sparta and Sussex County for over 61 years. It has been involved in activities such as food pantry collections, Salvation Army bell ringing, turkey distributions to 500 families at the holidays, Christmas gifts for kids in need, township beautification, and various other service events for children and seniors. Kiwanis has also partnered with Sparta Parks and Recreation over the years in support of Winter Carnival, Halloween events, and visits with Santa. The club also sponsors Key Clubs at the three high schools in Sparta Township. To learn more or to buy tickets, call Jeff Mullen at 973-729-1092 or visit www.SpartaKiwanis.org.
