Kiwanis' Casino Royale nets over $9K for Sparta youth

Sparta - Casino Royale, a Las Vegas-style fund-raising activity sponsored by the Sparta Kiwanis, raised $9,458 to benefit the youth of Sparta. The money will partially fund the club’s 2006 annual scholarship fund and the building of a refreshment stand at Station Park. The event was held at the Sparta Fire Dept. building. The gaming activity was managed by Events Plus, a Las Vegas-style professional gaming organization. Tables were dedicated to blackjack, craps, roulette, Caribbean stud and “Let it Ride” poker. A total of 180 tickets were sold, exceeding the initial target goal of 175. The gross revenue totaled $16,111; expenses were $6,653. The event planning committee was chaired by Scott Friedland, whose wife, Susie, as well as other spouses and members, volunteered to help ensure the smooth flow of the evening’s activities. The Kiwanis extended thanks to the Sparta Fire Dept. as well as the local merchants who supported the activity. The club plans to conduct another Casino Royale in the not-too-distant future..
