Local author to present history of Franklin Borough's railroads

    Franklin — Local author and historian Dr. William R. Truran will present a slide show on the history of Franklin Borough's railroads on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Franklin Branch of the Sussex County Library. The presentation's focus will be the local railroads that have carried freight and passengers for over a hundred years. Truran's presentation will also include a display of the original telegraph equipment that operated at the Franklin railroad stations. Truran was born and raised in Sussex County. A college professor, engineer, and avid student of local history, he is the author of two books: Franklin, Hamburg, Ogdensburg, and Hardyston (Images of America: New Jersey) and Sparta, New Jersey: Head of the Wallkill.
