MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. — To celebrate its 12th season, the award-winning SummerStar Theatre will feature “Crazy For You,” the high-energy George Gershwin song and dance spectacular, for six showings this month on stage at the Orange Hall Theatre at SUNY Orange. From author Ken Ludwig, who penned classics like “Lend Me A Tenor,” “Moon Over Buffalo” and “Twentieth Century” this Gershwin musical is full of zany comedy and larger-than-life characters. A 1992 Tony Award winning show for Best Musical, “Crazy For You” tells the story of a theater-loving New York playboy who ventures to a tiny mining town in Nevada to rescue a small theater. There are mistaken identities, romances and classic Gershwin tunes, including “I Can’t Be Bothered Now,” “Bidin’ My Time,” “I Got Rhythm,” “Naughty Baby,” “They Can’t Take That Away From Me,” “But Not For Me,” “Nice Work If You Can Get It,” “Embraceable You” and “Someone To Watch Over Me.” The creative team for “Crazy For You” includes director Max Schaefer, choreographer Jill Carroll, musical director Jim Quinlan and costume designer Cabot Parsons. The cast includes: Shawn Schorno, Robin Meade, Brittany Pierce, Bill Schwartz, Nancy Talarico, Carmine Garritano, Dara Ellen Breitkopf, David Mossey, Derek DeVoe, Douglas Harrington, Janet Droll, Fay Gerbes, Lourdesa Hunt, Michelle George, Rachel Webb, Tim Mullally, A.J. Hankins, David Melchionne and Frank Gerbes. A special fundraiser for Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is also taking place. The money raised will be managed and disbursed by the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade to help provide access to care for those that most need it, fund educational programs, and accelerate research into new treatments and potential cures.
