Mark Twain focus of talk series

    NEWTON — The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Sussex County will hold a series of informal Sunday morning “July Conversations” with the minister, Rev. Mary Tiebout, instead of regular Sunday services. This summer’s conversations will be Reflections on Selected Works by Mark Twain, held from 10:30-11:45 a.m. at the Fellowship, 1 West Nelson Street, Newton, on the following Sundays: July 10 - Introduction - A brief biography of Twain/Clemens; some themes in his writings that relate to religion, ethics and character, with examples from “The Celebrated Jumping Frog,” “Roughing It” and “Tom Sawyer” July 17 - Huck Finn - discussion led by Mike Bengis July 24 - Highlights from “Letters from the Earth,” “The Diaries of Adam and Eve” and “The Mysterious Stranger” July 31 - “The War Prayer” and selected highlights from “Connecticut Yankee” All of Twain’s writings are available online via Project Gutenberg, at www.gutenberg.org. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. Sunday School classes will not be available for children at these summer meetings. The Fellowship will be closed throughout the month of August.
