Meteorologist Bill Evans to talk on hurricanes
Newton Bill Evans, the Senior Meteorologist for Eyewitness News in the Morning and Eyewitness News at Noon, will give a presentation on hurricanes on Wednesday, Sept. 26, in the Sussex Bank Theater at Sussex County Community College beginning at 7 p.m. The community is invited to attend. At the conclusion of the presentation, Evans will be signing copies of his new book. He teamed up with novelist Marianna Jameson to write “Category 7 - It’s the Biggest Storm in History.” The super hurricane in question is Simone, the product of a mad scientist named Carter Thompson who has learned how to create and guide impossibly huge storm systems. So now Simone is threatening to wipe Manhattan clean off the face of the earth, and only a courageous group of meteorologists can stop it. Evans has won seven Emmy Awards. In addition to his television broadcasting duties, he does the weather for RadioDisney and ESPN and appears on ABC radio in major markets throughout the United States, as well as filling in on Good Morning America. Evans is also the meteorologist for “Scott and Todd in The Morning” and can be heard throughout the day on WPLJ Radio. He is no stranger to the sound and fury of hurricanes. Growing up in Mississippi, he experienced first-hand the awesome power of one of the most powerful and destructive hurricanes in America’s history, Hurricane Camille. Evans parlayed his interest in the causes and effects of severe weather into a career, going on to receive Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration from Mississippi State University and in Meteorology from Jackson State University. He worked as a weather man in the south for over a decade before moving to New York City, where he has been doing forecasts on WABC-TV since 1989. As the senior on-air weather personality, Evans has written and produced numerous documentaries on hurricanes and severe weather. In the course of his research, he has flown in “Hurricane Hunter” aircraft during major storms. He was presented with the annual Outstanding Meteorologist Award by the National Weather Service for his research and reporting efforts. His appearances on Good Morning America and Live with Regis and Kelly, as well as national radio reports, have made Evans nationally known for his entertaining and energetic weather coverage.
