Mountain Day celebration set

    Sparta — The seventh annual Sparta Mountain Day Celebration — Our Sustainable Health, Environment and Economic Present and Future — will be held on Sunday, June 5 at Edison Park, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will include hikes in the Sparta Mountain Wildlife Management Area, birding walks led by NJ Audubon experts, geo-caching classes, Edison Mine walks, and environmental arts and crafts. There will be speakers, vendors and organizations that will discuss healthy eating, farming and gardening, consumption habits, local sustainable history, wine making and waste management. The speakers/organizations include: Dr. Maurie Cohen from NJIT; The Rutgers Cooperative Extension; Kim Latham from Transition Newton; Eric Derby from Edible Jersey; Julia Somers from the NJ Highlands Coalition; Miriam Dunne from the NJ Bureau of Land Management; Gene Ventimigila from Ventimigila Vinyards; Joseph Caravalla from TransOptions; and Mike Anderson from NJ Audubon.
