    Newton-As part of its ongoing community outreach and service programs, Newton Memorial Hospital is hosting several classes during the month of October which are open to general public. CPR for Family and Friends Pediatric This one-day course is for individuals who would like to learn pediatric one-rescuer CPR, and Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (chocking) for children and infants, primarily for the rescue of family and friends. The course will take place from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Newton Memorial Hospital, 175 High Street, Newton. Fee is $20 and pre-registration is required. Heartsaver Pediatric CPR Course This one-day course is for individuals who are expected to provide CPR in the workplace. This course will focus on one-rescuer CPR and Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (choking), and also includes the use of barrier devices. The course will take place from 9 a.m. until 12 noon, Saturday, Oct. 9, at The Sparta Health and Wellness, 89 Sparta Avenue, Sparta. The fee is $35. Pre-registration is required for this class. The class will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 18, at the Sparta Health and Wellness Center, 89 Sparta Avenue, Sparta. The program is non-medical and will not interfere with medical treatments, make any medical or physical claims, or replace medical services in any way. The cosmetologists are volunteers who are certified and participate free of charge. The American Cancer Society sponsors this program. The Prostate Cancer "Man to Man" support group Newton Memorial Hospital in conjunction with the American Cancer Society will host "Man to Man" a prostate educational and support program that offers community based group discussion and support to men with prostate cancer. The group has scheduled a discussion starting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct, 19, at the Sparta Health and Wellness Center, 89 Sparta Avenue, Sparta. Members of the Prostate Cancer Task Force will also be in attendance that will give a survivor's perspective. Wives and partners are encouraged to attend this meeting.
