Hamburg — When Kathleen So moved to Hamburg in 2006, she started looking for places where her young children could learn about art and music. She knows these skills were important to child development, but the schools she found required quite of bit of driving on the long, dark, Sussex County roads. That's one reason why, in 2010, So founded the Symphony of Music and Art Studio: A school that offers art classes, music lessons, tutoring, language courses and other creative and developmental activities for children and adults. The So family has a passion for the arts. They envision Symphony of Music and Art not only as a place for classes, but also as a place where artists and musicians can come together to show work and exchange ideas. On Friday, Aug. 26, parents, artists, musicians and anyone interested in an evening out, are invited to attend a reception and open house at Symphony. Agatha Wyman of Highland Lakes, who is known in the area for her ceramic work, will debut her oil paintings along with her large scale ceramic sculptures. Lorrie Sniderman from Warwick, N.Y., will be showing pastel paintings, and Tom Naples, also from Warwick, will be showing photography. Cindy Diskin and Dolli Grace of the group Calico Sky will perform a sampling of their repertoire with old and new acoustic music. The Symphony of Music and Art Studio is located at the Viking Village, Suite 1B, at 5 Route 94, Vernon. The reception is from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and refreshments will be served. Some of the classes starting this September at Symphony include fine art classes for children age seven and up; early childhood creativity for 4- and 5-year-olds, and a clay sculpture workshop for 8-year-olds and older.
