SCARC honors Newton Hospital's critical care director and staff
SUSSEX COUNTY-Nancy English, MSN, APRN, and director of critical care/telemetry services at Newton Memorial Hospital and her staff have been awarded the 2005 Professionals of the Year Award by SCARC, Inc. It is the first time the award has been given to an entire staff instead of to an individual. Richard C. Lecher, PhD, Executive Director of SCARC said, "English and her staff have assisted SCARC's staff not only in the care of patients who were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Newton Memorial Hospital but in the preparation of documents. "We at SCARC unanimously agree that English and her staff have provided our residents with an extra measure of sensitive care along with a supportive and encouraging relationship, particularly in the compassionate care our end of life patients have received," Lecher continued. English has been a nurse for 33 years, receiving her Masters in Nursing at Seton Hall. Twenty months ago, she became part of the Newton Memorial Hospital team when she was appointed to her presennt position. English manages 32 employees, and says she finds it to be a smooth operation with a good rapport between her and her staff. In response of the SCARC Award, English said, "Our SCARC patients have very distinctive health issues, particularly Down Syndrome patients, who, upon reaching 40-50 years of age, develop severe health problems. Critical Care patients from SCARC can also be end-of-life patients, who, because of their disabilities, require very specialized care to keep them comfortable and cooperative." The Lake Mohawk Country Club on the Boardwalk in Sparta on June 10, 2005 will be the setting for SCARC's annual June Awards Dinner Dance.
