SCCC hosts photography exhibit

NEWTON-An exhibit of platinum prints by photographers Dorota Bakalus and Douglas Petersen will be presented at the Sussex County Community College Art Gallery from Oct. 28 through Nov. 30. Bakalus and Petersen began working together on an extended photographic documentation of the Przemysl Fortress ruins in Poland in 2002. The discovery of this subject and its compelling history suggested a project that both photographers could approach with a collaborative vision. Dorota Bakalus has exhibited her work extensively over the past 10 years, concentrating on multiple image constructions based on experimental video pieces she creates. She studied architectural design at Wroclaw College, Poland, and is a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography. Douglas Petersen’s photographs of the American historical landscape have resulted in two books, The Last Light of Day and Public Sculpture in New Jersey. A lifelong student of photographic science and its application as an art form, Petersen teaches photography at SCCC. An opening reception with the artists will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, and is open to the public. Refreshments will be served. The gallery at SCCC is located at the Newton Campus in Building C. The gallery is open from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday.
