Augusta — Senior Day at the New Jersey State Fair will take place under the Performing Arts Tent at the Sussex County Fair Grounds on Thursday, Aug. 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The theme for this year’s Senior Day will be Remembering the Summer of ’55. The day includes early morning refreshments, door prizes and informational exhibits, as well as promotional give-a-ways. This year there will also be a food drive to help stock the Social Services Food Pantry. Items needed include shelf-stable meat, tuna or other proteins in a can, peanut butter and jelly. Pop-top cans are appreciated, as many people do not have a can opener. Many people need meals that can be heated or cooked in a microwave oven. Seniors who donate a bag of non-perishable foods will be entered in a drawing to win a $50 WalMart gift card. Nominees for the Sussex County Senior of the Year will be recognized and the winner announced during the festivities. Sussex County Skylands Ride Bus Driver Safety Awards will also be presented at the event. Presented by the Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Senior Services, Senior Day at the NJ State Fair is sponsored by Bristol Glen, Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home and Newton Medical Center Auxiliary.
