SPARTA-Sparta resident Cynthia Bowles, author, illustrator and professional portrait artist, now has a children's picture book, "A Rare Bird, indeed!" published. "A Rare Bird, indeed!" is the story of an ancient creature, a wingless, flightless bird of New Zealand, believed for many years to be extinct. The story unfolds from the viewpoint of the other birds who first encounter this rare bird. So rare is this bird that no one knows his name, not even himself. Born in New Zealand, Bowles studied and taught art in her native country and the United States. She works in oil, pastel, watercolor and charcoal. Her portraits are done by commission, either from life or photographs. Bowles is a fellow of the American Artists Professional League, a member of the National Arts Club and a member of the Art Centre of New Jersey. Autographed copies are available at Sparta Books.
