Sparta day festival coming
SPARTAThe annual Sparta Day family fun festival is scheduled for June 11. The 30th annual event, to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mohawk Avenue School, will feature an arts and crafts fair, amusement rides, food, games, and entertainment, as well as several sporting events. The Sparta Day Run, eight miles around Lake Mohawk, is scheduled for 8 a.m., with registration beginning at 7. The cost is $8 in advance, $10 the day of the race. The 8th Annual Sparta Day Track & Field Meet will be held at Ungerman Field (behind the Sparta Ambulance Building ) from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with events for ages 3 and up. The 8th Annual Sparta Day Open Tennis Tournament will be held June 11 and 12. Entry forms are available at the Sparta Recreation Department. Call 973-729-2383. All proceeds from Sparta Day, including a 50/50 raffle, will benefit the Junior Woman's Club General Fund. The Junior Woman's Club of Sparta is a volunteer service organization that last year dispersed over $27,000 to local organizations such as Sparta Volunteer Fire Department, Sparta Police Athletic League, Sparta Ambulance Squad, DARE, Sussex County YMCA, Sparta Public Library, and Sussex County Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
