— September 19, 2017, marks the return of master magician Bill Wisch’s magic class to the Sparta Avenue Stage. This is Bill’s third year sharing and teaching his own special brand of Close-up and Parlor magic. These new classes entitled “Power Magic” will be held at the Stage every Tuesday evening for 8 weeks for both Young Adults (ages 8-14) from 5 pm to 6 pm and adults from 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm. Students will learn powerful magic from Bill’s professional repertoire that they will love and use the rest of their life.
Classes will focus on both easy to learn magic as well as sleight of hand magic techniques-using standard everyday objects. Participants will learn innovative “close-up” routines that will allow them to perform seemingly impromptu magic for friends, family and business associates-no stage required.
“Power Magic is actually Bill’s sixth class here at the Stage," Sparta Stage co-proprietor Joe Garsetti said. "And each class has been different. What’s exciting about Bill’s course outline and the magic selected for ‘Power Magic’ is that these routines, which are not technically difficult, will elicit a strong response from audiences of all ages. Magic doesn't have to be knuckle busting to be strong and memorable-but it has to be meaningful and well crafted, that's the secret sauce that Bill teaches us in those eight weeks."
Bill's one-hour ‘young adult’ class (from 5 PM to 6 PM) is designed for children and budding magicians. Joe also notes, “we have had several students take more than one class with Bill and it is remarkable at how adept and good these kids are and how quickly they remember all the steps and moves that go into a magic routine.” One student, Sparta resident Evan Laliker, 15, has studied with Bill for 3 years now. This past spring, Evan took Bill’s advanced “Simply Syldini” course, a class reserved for professional magicians.
“He works hard and puts a lot of time in practicing his mechanics. Watching him entertain and stun, really stun audiences with magic routines I learned back in 70’s from the late, great Tony Slydini is inspiring and rewarding. It further illustrates that the classics of magic, done well, are timeless and enduring,” Wisch said.
Bill was Slydini's student and protégé who from 1976 through 1979 embarked on a 74 city “Slydini book tour” teaching the magic of Slydini to thousands of magicians.
Wisch is a professional magician who lives in northern NJ. He has astounded audiences in cities across the U.S. and Canada for over four decades at numerous venues including the Magic Castle in Hollywood, California. Bill has taught thousands of professional magicians through his lectures, videos, books, and articles, commercially available through "Wisch-Craft Magic Productions.”
“Power Magic” is made possible by Sparta Stage Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Formed in May of 2014 to support the performing arts with a special emphasis in teaching and advancing the art of magic. Investment in the 8-week Power Magic class is $155 per student for young adults and $195 for the adults. All materials, notes, and supplies are provided and included. Class size will be limited. Class scheduled for Oct 31st will take place on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 so as not to interfere with Halloween festivities.
