— Sparta-based piano teacher Joan Farrington proudly announced that her student, Lomaani Ranasinghe, a junior at Sparta High School, will perform at Rockport Music Hall in Massachusetts in April.
“Lomaani Ranasinghe is an extremely hard working, retentive and expressive pianist," Farrington said. "She continues to perfect her technique, dexterity and ever advancing musical selections. Her musical future is bright.”
Ranasinghe will be performing on Monday, April 16. She will be performing Prelude Opus 28, #18, a powerful piece by Frederick Chopin, expressive composer of the Romantic period. Ranasinghe took third place in the Crescendo International Music Competition, Dec. 3, 2017, in Princeton, NJ.
She has been a student of Farrington’s since December 2015. She recently took first place as pianist for the Sparta Youth Jazz Band Orchestra.
Farrington attended Douglass College, Rutgers University and William Paterson. She has taught piano in Sparta for 42 years. She studied under Olga Von Till, an associate of the New York Philharmonic.
