NEWTON — St. Joseph Regional School’s courtyard is undergoing major renovations. In addition to resurfacing and installing a plexi-pave playscape, a large-scale outdoor mural, like one might see in Philadelphia, is planned for the now plain courtyard walls. The improvements have been made possible by a grant from ThorLabs. “We are just so excited about the mural. The entire community will benefit from it,” said Mrs. Linda Nick, St. Joe’s Principal. Plans for the mural have been underway since early Spring. Local artist Jennie Traill Schaeffer, owner of TraillWorks, held sessions with St. Joe’s students to generate ideas for the mural. “This is their school, the mural should incorporate a piece of them.” Final sketches are being drawn up, and soon the courtyard will feature 9 stained glass “windows” and depict Bible stories and scripture. St. Joseph Regional School serves children K-8 and welcomes all faiths. St. Joe’s will hold an Open Houses on Thursday, October 13 and Wednesday, November 16; 10am and 7pm.
