Summer art classes at SCCC
Newton Local artist Toni Chaplin will offer art classes at Sussex County Community College this summer. Chaplin is offering three workshops: Pen, Ink and Watercolor is a six session course offered both in the afternoon (Mondays, June 6 through July 18 from 3 to 5:30 p.m.) and in the evening (Wednesdays, June 8 through July 16, from 7 to 9:30 p.m.) and costs $169. In this course students will learn how to draw and add texture, depth, and color to their artwork. Painting with Acrylics on Watercolor Paper will teach students techniques to work with acrylics. This four-session, 10 hour course meets on Saturdays, beginning June 18 and costs $120. Scratchboard Techniques is a process using India ink on clay-board surfaced boards. A single session workshop, the 5-hour session will take place on Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $75. Other summer classes: Join Dawn Davis for an evening of One Stroke Painting. She will lead the class in painting sunflowers on wood using a scruffy brush and dagger. All materials are provided. Make this a family event - ages 10 and up. The workshop meets on June 14 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and costs $45. New this summer is a Film Appreciation course taught by retired advertising executive and film aficionado Bernie Zlotnick. More than just a date night, get the history and back story of a movie. From each decade of film, view such movies as “Casablanca,” “Star Wars” and a selection of Hitchcock films.
