Teen concert in the park focuses on drug free teens

    BYRAM — Day Dream on Auto Pilot and other local teen bands will be playing in Neil Gylling Park on Friday evening, August 8 beginning at 6:00 p.m. and continuing until dusk. The concert is designed to provide a free, drug free concert for local teens to enjoy their favorite music, Members of Day Dream on Auto Pilot will discuss with the teens their reasons not to drink alcohol or use drugs as the concert progresses. Concert T-shirts designed by a Lenape Valley High School student will be on sale for just $5.00. Snacks and soda will also be available. Teens and families should bring chairs or blankets to sit on while enjoying the concert. Neil Gylling Park is located on Mansfield Drive across from the Byram Municipal Building. The Teen Concert is sponsored by the Byram Parks and Recreation Department and the Lenape Valley Municipal Alliance which supports drug and violence free education and programs in Byram. Stanhope and Netcong. The Alliance also provides a MAC Teen Center for tweens in grades 6 through 9 every Wednesday evening during the summer and the second Friday night of the month during the school year, where teens can play pool, DDR, air hockey and a variety of games, plus special events such as dances and inflatable obstacle courses. MAC Teen Center nights are held at the Byram Civic Center and at Netcong School. Call 973-347-2500 ext. 160 for the summer schedule of locations. Teens in grades 10 and up are invited to play music, sing, recite poetry read original works, perform monologues, comedy routines, short one act plays, or come to enjoy the performance of others at Open Mic Night on Friday August 15 from 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Byram Civic Center located on Lackawanna Drive in Byram. There is a $2 charge at the door and refreshments are for sale. Open Mic Nights are also sponsored by Byram Recreation and the Lenape Valley Municipal Alliance. Summer Movies in the Park co-sponsored by the Byram Parks aid Recreation, Lenape Valley Municipal Alliance, Mount Olive Library and Hollywood Video are scheduled each Wednesday night at 8:45 in Neil Gylling Park. All movies are G or PG rated. Upcoming movies include “Hairspray”, “National Treasure II”, “Flicka”, ‘’Mr. Magorium’s Emporium” and others. A short informational video on drugs will precede the main movie. The show begins at 8:45 pm and finishes around 11 p.m. in Neil Gylling Park.
