STANHOPE-Jill van Duyne and Faith Duryea have been recognized as outstanding teachers by Lenape Valley Regional High School. Selected by a panel of colleagues and administration, Jill van Duyne was named recipient of the 2005-06 Governor School Recognition award. Faith Duryea was named Teacher of the Year for the 2005-06 school year. Van Duyne earned the honor in her sixth year of teaching Spanish at Lenape Valley. Her teaching career began in December 1999 with the challenge of replacing a veteran teacher mid-year. She was cited for bringing innovative strategies into her classroom to bridge learners between English and Spanish, including guitar sing-alongs and kinesthetic activities. Duryea received her honor after teaching World History and U.S. History (grades 9-11) at the Foundations, College Prep, and Honors levels for eleven years. Principal Mr. Douglas deMarrais remarked that Duryea's "meteoric rise" from substitute to Teacher of the Year is a testament to her "exuberance and determination."
