Woman's Club member honored by Special Homes

SPARTA - Sparta Woman's Club member, Carole Geoghegan, was honored by the Special Homes of New Jersey Organization at a celebratory brunch and fund raiser on April 25. Geoghegan received a piece of crystal art commemorating her work as founder and later executive director of this organization recognized by the State of New Jersey as a living center for physically or mentally disadvantaged adults interested in learning through living together, managing their own finances, and working in the community in jobs suited to their abilities. What started with one house organized for a small group of residents who voted to join Geoghegan's venture has become a series of such homes serving many more clients whose futures are rosier for the experience of living in an environment of guidance and encouraged independence. Geoghegan has passed her executive director's duties on to her successor to free herself for other work with people whose living standards are threatened by diminished incomes or abilities to stay in their homes of long standing. Geoghegan's drive to give back to her community is evidenced in her participation in Sparta Woman's Club functions such as the Literature Department, the Investment Club, and the Special Interest Group, the Circle of Yarns. She also contributes to community support through her church and other civic ties.
