SPARTA — On Dec. 10 the cafeteria of Sparta Middle School will be transformed into a gingerbread wonderland, as the Junior Woman’s Club of Sparta launches a brand new, holiday event, Gingerbread For A Cause. The day will have a variety of activities for all ages, but the focus of the day will be the gingerbread house display and contest. The contest is grouped into age ranges, with the youngest participants’ group for those aged 3 to 6, and categories all the way up to adult. Team entries are also welcome. Creativity is encouraged - any type of structure made of gingerbread is welcome, whether a house, boat or train - but all materials must be edible. For a full list of gingerbread entry guidelines, or for a registration form, visit www.jwcsparta.com or email jwcsparta@gmail.com. Start planning now, as entry forms are due by Dec. 1. A gingerbread house is certainly not required to enjoy the holiday festivities. Gingerbread For A Cause also features a silent auction, bake sale, story-time for children, and holiday crafts. All proceeds from the event go to support Katie’s House in Newton, a non-profit organization that provides supportive housing, activities, and services to people with developmental disabilities.
