Young actress a 'Rising Star'

HarDyston - Wallkill Valley High School senior Lindsay Dunn’s portrayal of Millie Dillmount in the school’s recent production of “Thoroughly Modern Millie” has gotten the young actress noticed. She has been nominated in the category of Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role by the Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star awards committee. She is one of seven nominees in her category from public and private high schools across the state. Lindsay will attend the Rising Star Awards on June 7, at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Milburn, where she will perform a number from that musical. She will also perform with the other nominees. The final winners will be announced that evening in a Tony Awards style ceremony. The awards recognize high school actors, actresses and high school theater productions. In addition to the honor of being a final nominee, Lindsay will receive a full scholarship for the Paper Mill’s Summer Musical Theatre Conservatory, a five-week intensive professional theatre training program, valued at $2,200. At the end of that program she will perform with the other conservatory members for three performances on the Paper Mill Playhouse stage, called “New Voices 2011, I’ll take Manhattan.” Theatre agents and casting directors will be invited to the performance to scout new and upcoming theatre talent. After high school graduation next month, Lindsay, a Harydston resident, is going on to study theatre at Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y., in the fall.
