Hardyston teen charged with aggravated assault

FRANKLIN. A police investigation finds that Nicholas Sacerdote, 18, ran through Wal-Mart on March 20, using an imitation firearm to shoot gel-like projectiles at store patrons and staff members.

Nicholas Sacerdote, 18, of Hardyston was charged with fourth-degree aggravated assault with an imitation firearm and other charges after an incident at the Franklin Wal-Mart on March 20.

One employee was injured after Sacerdote ran through the store shortly after 8:30 p.m., using an imitation firearm to shoot gel-like projectiles at store patrons and staff members, police said. He then fled the store.

Sacerdote was arrested March 21 after an investigation by Franklin Police Officers Zachary Oren and Zachary LaGrave.

He also was charged with fourth-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and petty disorderly persons offenses for disorderly conduct and harassment.

During the initial response, officers from the Hamburg and Hardyston police department assisted Franklin police.

Sacerdote was released pending an appearance in Superior Court in Sussex County.
