Sussex County Community College (SCCC) is participating in “Feed the Future: Fight Student Hunger,” a statewide initiative to combat student food insecurity at New Jersey’s community colleges.

The campaign, which launched last week, during National Hunger Action Month, is a partnership of the colleges, the Future Alumni Support Team (FAST) and the New Jersey Council of County Colleges (NJCCC).

A recent Hope Center #RealCollege survey of New Jersey community colleges found that 39 percent of student respondents reported being food insecure in the 30 days preceding the survey, a figure that aligns with national trends.

“Feed the Future: Fight Student Hunger” aims to ensure that students can focus on their studies without worrying about where their next meal will come from.

“At Sussex County Community College, we recognize that student success goes beyond the classroom,” said Cory Homer, the college president. “Meeting basic needs like food security is essential to helping our students stay on track, complete their education and reach their goals. We’re proud to be a part of this important statewide collaboration.”

“Feed the Future: Fight Student Hunger” is raising funds through the online platform Spotfund.com at spot.fund/93qqfm3sc

All funds raised will go directly to SCCC’s Horton Nutrition Center on campus to support its food pantry and other nutrition-focused programs.
