    Alexander Jelly of Sparta graduated from Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I. with a bachelor’s degree in international studies. Alison Donan has been named to the dean’s list for the winter 2011 semester at Elmira College in Elmira, N.Y. Andrew J. Murray of Sparta graduated from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn. with a bachelor’s degree in film, video and interactive media. Danielle Gratkowski of Sparta has been named to the dean’s list at DeSales University for the spring 2011 semester. She as accepted into the Dance National Honor Society, and accepted into the Joffrey Jazz and Contemporary Summer Intensive which she will be attending this August. Cristina Garafola of Sparta was named the recipient of The Constantine Karamanlis Prize in World Politics, The Prizes for Excellence in Chinese Language and Literature and The Todd Prize in Rhetoric and Mass Media at Hamilton College’s annual Class and Charter Day. The Constantine Karamanlis Prize in World Politics was established by Constantine Karamanlis, Class of 1998, and his family. The prize honors the memory of Karamanlis’ uncle, the former President of Greece, Constantine Karamanlis and is awarded to the outstanding senior concentrator in world politics. The Prizes for Excellence in Chinese Language and Literature were established in 1997 by Hong Gang Jin and De Bao Xu, both of whom are professors in the East Asian Languages and Literatures Program at Hamilton. Two prizes are awarded each year: one for excellence at the introductory level of study, and one for excellence at the advanced level. The Todd Prize in Rhetoric and Mass Media, established by Charles Lafayette Todd, Class of 1933, and the Upson Professor of Rhetoric and Oratory from 1960 to 1977, is awarded to the student who writes the best essay on the influence of the electronic media on political discourse and advocacy that shape public attitudes and behavior. Garafola, a senior majoring in Chinese and world politics, is a graduate of Sparta High School. Shannon Leigh McGrath of Sparta was awarded a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I. University of Scranton student Amie Leonard of Sparta recently completed the Scranton Emerging Leaders II program, a yearlong series of sessions for students dedicated to building leadership skills. Throughout the year, participants plan and execute projects dedicated to advocacy and change.
