    Jordan Schmidt of Sparta graduated from Chapman University with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies and a minor in Schmidt was inducted into Lamba Pi Eta, the national honor society for communication studies. In addition, he served as an intern for U.S. Rep. Ed Royce for two years. Michael Rodney of Sparta, a freshman majoring in aerospace engineering has been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2011 semester at Virginia Tech. Kayla Marie Liland of Sparta had a successful first year of study at Coastal Carolina University. She majors in biology/pre-pharmacy and was placed on the President’s List for both fall and spring semesters as a result of her 4 GPA. These grades have also given her the opportunity to become a member of Phi Eta Sigma, a national honor society for first year students. Cristina L. Garafola of Sparta received a bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. Garafola, who graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Chinese and world politics. Sparta residents Carly Marie Mora and Ari Samuel Young graduated from Drew University in Madison with bachelor’s degrees. Andrew Nerviano of Sparta, a television-radio-film major at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, received the Newhouse School’s Zak Trifone Love of Life and Music Award, for a junior who is actively writing, performing, and recording music of any genre, and who demonstrates collaboration, inclusiveness, and encouragement of fellow students. Sara E. Prickett of Sparta graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Washington College in Chestertown, Md. Jeff Gottlieb of Sparta recently graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude with highest thesis honors from Tufts University as a drama major. He will be working in the movie industry in LA. Bryan Neumann of Sparta was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2011 semester at the University of New Haven in West Haven, Conn. Sparta residents Cassandra Mainiero and Victoria Yuskaitis were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2011 semester at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa. Greg Williamson of Sparta has been named to the dean’s list at Northeastern University in Boston. He has also been inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society. He is currently on a co-op assignment with Credit Suisse in Chicago, He is pursuing a degree in finance and business management. Melissa Fletcher of Sparta was named to the dean’s list for the fall and spring semesters 2010-11 at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and inducted into the Psi Chi International Honor Society in psychology. Daniel Joseph Viegas of Sparta has graduated from The Citadel, the military college of South Carolina. He will be entering the Army in the fall.
