Dance studio performs well at national competition

LANDING — Generations of Dance, a dance studio for children and young adults located in Landing, picked up more than 85 awards at the Starbound National Talent Competition held recently at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City. More than 960 routines were offered over a five day period. Generations of Dance teams comprised of dancers age 8 and under took home more High Gold prizes than any other studio at the competition, and the studio won four of the top 10 overall spots in the Junior and Teen divisions. A Generations of Dance tap routine titled "Banjos" placed first in the Junior National Dance championship for the 12 and under age group. The studio's entries in the Teen Showcase took second and fourth prizes for "Body Music" and "God Bless the USA," respectively. The lyrical dance ensemble also placed fourth with the routine, "Can You Hear Me." Five-year-old Sammi Johnson took home awards for Little Miss Star of Hope and Petite Miss Tap Solo, while her older brother, Sean Johnson, won Top Teen Solo. Generations of Dance student Kolyn Ryan was awarded Teen Miss Star of Hope. Duets from the studio were also awarded top prizes in the Junior and Petite divisions. "Our students are very dedicated. They have worked extremely hard all year, and we are very proud of their success," noted Beth Johnson, owner of the Generations of Dance Studio.
