West Milford — The staff and residents of Van Dyk Assisted Living and Senior Apartments celebrated National Assisted Living Week with a "Forever Proud" 1940 theme week. They had Rosie the Riveter, boot camp, canteen, a USO Show and Victory Day celebration. The week started off with residents having their photos taken with Rosie the Riveter and getting their ration coupon books, just like back in the day. During the week the residents were able to use their coupons to win rations such as spam, nylons, mayo and chocolate. The staff even put on a USO show along with some residents that featured Bob Hope and The Andrews Sisters. The ballroom Victory Dance capped off the week, including that famous kiss. Van Dyk Assisted Living is located at 197 Cahill Cross Road in West Milford. For information call 973-697-6000.
