Newton — Kayla Boccuzzo was selected by the Newton Rotary to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Conference at Drew University. Only 80 students are selected to participate in this three-day program. The weekend is filled with conversations and activities that teach leadership, cooperation, and team building.
In 1905, the Rotary Club was founded by Paul Harris, a Chicago attorney who wanted to bring together like-minded people to give back to their community. Their meetings were held at different locations and hence the name Rotary Club was born. On the Rotary website it states, “We’re committed to service, and we’re not afraid to dream big and set bold goals.” The club is committed to six objectives:
1. Promoting peace
2. Fighting disease
3. Providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene
4. Saving mothers and children
5. Supporting education
6. Growing local economies
The Rotary Club hopes this event will reinforce for the students anything is possible and dreams do come true. Congratulations, Kayla! We would love to hear more about your experience when you return.
