Local students: achievements and honors

    Jocelyn Grayce Anker of Sparta, a member of the Class of 2019 at Washington and Lee University in lexington, VA,, has earned President’s List status for the recently ended academic year.
    To achieve the President’s List, a student must be in the top 30 percent of Washington and Lee-attained credits and grades for the preceding year.
    The following local students were named to the President’s List at LIM College in New York, NY for the Spring 2017 semester:
    Samantha Mornhineway of Sparta
    Rosette Pegollo of Sparta
    To be placed on the President’s List students must earn a grade point average between 3.8 and 4.0.
    Sean Devaney of Sparta has been selected to receive the New York State Advantage Award to attend SUNY Oneonta. The college's award of $6,000 annually will help Devaney to pursue a bachelor's degree beginning in the fall 2017 semester. Devaney, a graduate of Sparta High School, has not yet declared a major.
    James Madison University, in Harrisonburg, VA, welcomes the class of 2021 to campus this month. The incoming freshman class represents an accomplished, diverse group of individuals who hail from 35 states, the District of Columbia and 10 countries around the world. Among the students are:
    Andrew Lopuch of Sparta whose major is Biology - BS.
    Bridget Togno of Sparta whose major is Nursing - BSN.
    Abby Pineyro of Sparta whose major is International Business - BBA.
    University of Delaware student Eleanor Born of Sparta conducted summer research, as one of more than 150 UD undergraduate students who worked on a range of research projects in disciplines all across the university as well as in the community. Over the past 10 weeks, they have collaborated with their faculty mentors and, in many cases, with other undergraduates and with graduate students, learning how original research takes place and creating new knowledge themselves.
