Women's nonprofit appoints a president
SPARTA — David Rubin was appointed president of WISPER, a Sparta based nonprofit charitable organization that is vested in providing support and resources for women throughout New Jersey. Founded by Sparta residents Richard and Jaimie Tomko in 2015, WISPER stands for We Invest in Strong Programs, Empowerment, and building Respect for women. WISPER is a nonprofit organization raising funds to assist women and related organizations in reaching established goals and enhancing growth in all areas pertinent to the tenets of the organization through the advancement of leadership; nurturing of future career paths; representing community ideals; and enhancing academic standards in education. As an organization, WISPER provides monetary assistance and recognition to those women and their mentors who deserve support in helping to fulfill the mission of “Paying it Forward” by leveling the proverbial playing field in the spirit of equality for all. Besides scholarship awards to graduating high school seniors and grants for specific projects, the foundation hosts an annual WISPER Woman of the Year presentation. Honorees for 2017 included now Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver and broadcast personality, Tina Cervasio.
"I am honored to have been nominated and selected by my fellow trustees to lead the mission of WISPER for the upcoming year," Rubin remarked. "The work we do together within communities is important in getting out the message of the organization."
