Lipka wins tech award

    FRANKLIN-Michael Lipka, a resident of Franklin and 2005 graduate of the Electronics Technology Program at Sussex County Technical School, won a Bronze Medal for Electronics Applications in the SkillsUSA National Championships, which were held in Kansas City, Missouri, from June 20-25. Lipka, who majored in Electronics Technology at Sussex Tech, won a gold medal in Electronics Application at the state level in May, which qualified him for the national competition where he competed against other gold medalists. He placed third in the national competition and was awarded a Bronze Medal. Using modern test equipment, Lipka went to work troubleshooting functional building blocks of electronics systems, power supplies, microprocessors, digital technology and video systems. He also demonstrated soldering and de-soldering skills and workmanship and assembly techniques in constructing an electronics project. As part of the competition Lipka also took a written examination on safety procedures, electronic devices and electronics concepts. Lipka, who is pursuing a career in electronics, is continuing his education at the Pennsylvania College of Technology.
