Alexandra Labrum, of Sparta, dies at age 80

Alexandra Labrum, 80, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018. Alexandra was born in Glasgow, Scotland to Alexander and Josephine (McArthur) Defelice. She was raised in Glasgow before moving to London where she studied Piano at the Royal College of Music and the Victoria College of Music. Alexandra met the love of her life, Peter, and married on July 2, 1960, at St. Mary’s Church in Battersea. Alexandra worked as a supervisor at Chase Manhattan Bank. Alexandra and Peter immigrated to the United States in 1967 and settled in Kearny, NJ, where she became an Executive Assistant at Monsanto Chemicals until giving birth to her only daughter, Josette, in 1968. She loved Josette unconditionally and was the best role model in the world. Alexandra was Office Supervisor in the Mental Health Department in Newton Hospital from 1980 to 1983. Alexandra opened a Staffing Agency in Sparta in 1986 with two partners and then opened her own office in 1993 at 19 Main Street in Sparta. Her daughter, Josette, joined her in 1997 until they closed the business in 2016. Alexandra loved matching people with the right position. She was responsible for placing over 15,000 local candidates in temporary or permanent positions in her 30-year tenure. It was her true passion. She was a member of Our Lady of Lake Church since 1974.
Alexandra was a founding member of the Park Avenue Foundation in Florham Park. She was also a member of the Lake Mohawk Country Club for over 30 years and the Lake Mohawk Golf Club since 1993. Alexandra was an active member of Cornerstone Playhouse for over 30 years where she enjoyed performing in and being behind the scenes in over 25 shows. She also performed in shows at the Jefferson Theatre and the Baker Ballroom in Dover. Alexandra was predeceased by her loving parents and three brothers and is survived by her beloved husband Peter, her daughter, Josette Stock, her husband David and her “Girls” Grace and Sophia. Also, her extended family and cousins in NJ and MA as well as in the UK, and dear friends. After being diagnosed with Stage-4 breast cancer in 2013, Alexandra was cared for by her oncologist and “angel” Dr. May Abdo-Matkiwshy and Dr. David Bollard.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Sparta, NJ 07871. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated immediately following at Our Lady of the Lake Church 294 S. Sparta Ave. in Sparta at noon.
