Clarence H. Parr (“Larry”) of Milton, N.J., passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 2, 2021. He was 92.
Born in Passaic, N.J., he was raised in Nutley, N.J., graduating from Nutley High School in 1946. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1946, serving for two years as an aviation metalsmith, being honorably discharged in 1948. He attended Rutgers University, graduating in 1952 with a bachelor’s degree in geology.
He was a production supervisor at Singer, Kearfott Division in Little Falls, N.J., for 34 years. He later drove a school bus part-time for DW Clark.
He and his wife, Mary, moved to Milton in 1954. He was an original member of the Milton First Aid Squad, volunteering for 61 years in several roles, including captain. He was elected to the Jefferson Township Board of Education and served as the vice president, serving three terms. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 423, and an active member of Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church, where he was ordained as an elder.
He and his wife enjoyed RVing, traveling the United States, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand. He loved to work with his hands. He and his wife renovated their first home together and he could often be found tinkering on his cars.
He is predeceased by his parents, Clarence A. Parr and Lucretia M. Housby Parr; brother James A. Parr; and sister June E. Parr Santangelo.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Louisa Ely Parr; daughters, Cynthia E. Brennan and her husband, Kevin, of Payson, Ariz., Janice L. Koch and her husband, Paul, of Boonton Township, N.J., Laura A. Woody and her husband, Raymond, of Oak Ridge, N.J.; grandchildren, Jennifer L. Koch and her wife, Kate Cochrane, of Lexington, Mass., Eric M. Koch and his wife, Karen, of Lexington, Va., Sarah M. Koch and her husband, Gene Mazzone, of Chelmsford, Mass., and Elijah Woody of Oak Ridge; and great-grandchildren, Augusta Koch-Cochrane, Beatrix Koch-Cochrane, Zachary Koch, and Rylan Koch.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
