Frederick J. Milens, Sr., 94, of Byram Township, passed away on August 20, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Fred was born in Hoboken, NJ on July 3, 1923 and moved to Denville, NJ at the age of seven and lived there until he married Clara Goble in 1948; the family then moved to Byram in 1957. Fred enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1943 reaching the rank of Flight Officer. He piloted C-47 aircraft, serving in the European Theatre of Operations in Italy. After the war he taught aerobatics at Sussex County Airport. Fred was a proud 67 year member of Carpenter Local Union #253, a 45 year member of the Byram Planning Board, member of Byram Senior Citizens’ Club and the VFW Post 15031. Fred enjoyed collecting pre-war Lionel trains and accessories and still owned a Blue Comet train set from 1937 that he loved to show his friends. He is predeceased by his brothers: William and Charles Milens and his beloved son Frederick J. Milens Jr. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Clara Goble Milens; father of Douglas Milens and his wife Maureen of Byram, NJ and Patricia Leasure and her husband Donald of Byram, NJ. He is also survived by his grandsons: Frederick Milens lll and his wife Ashanna of Dixon, IL; Samuel A. Milens of Byram and sister-in-law Evelyn Milens, 2 nieces and 1 cousin. Friends may call Friday, August 25th, 2017 from 10:30am-12:30pm followed by a funeral service at the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St, Sparta, NJ 07871. Interment will follow at Sparta Cemetery.
