    George L. Blake of Newton, N.J., passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021, at Colonial Manor at Panther Valley in Allamuchy, N.J. He was 90.

    Son of the late Harold and Katherine (Wheelock) Blake, he was born on Aug. 1, 1930, in Floral Park, N.Y. He was raised in Saddle River, N.J., and was a resident of Ridgewood, N.J., for a number of years before moving to Newton in 1971.

    He was a proud U.S. Navy Corpsman. Dr. Blake was an optometrist and served the New Milford, N.J., and Newton communities for 30 years prior to his retirement.

    He was a former member of the Newton Lyons Club,the Newton Rotary Club, and the First Presbyterian Church of Newton and was a member of the Newton United Methodist Church.

    For more than 50 years, he was the beloved husband of the late Evelyn (Gooss) Blake.

    George is survived by his daughter, Diane Blake of Green Township, N.J.; son ,Steven and his wife, Michele, of Reading, Pa.; and grandsons, Riley Blake and Jonas Blake.

    A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, July 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton, N.J., followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m.
