Margaret Mary McGovern, 90, of Sparta, NJ passed away on August 4, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Margaret, known as Peggy, was born in Newark, lived in South Orange, NJ, and moved to Sparta in 1950 where she raised her family. Peggy graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Newark, and from Caldwell University. Peggy was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Sparta; and she volunteered over the years for Meals on Wheels, Literacy Volunteers of America, the Sussex County Interfaith Hospitality Network serving the homeless, and as a Eucharistic Minister. Peggy was the daughter of Walter and Catherine Reilly, deceased. Peggy is predeceased in life by her beloved husband William J. McGovern, sister Frances Corbin, and brother Daniel Reilly. She is survived by her devoted children: William J. McGovern and his wife Janis, Patrick W. McGovern and his wife Susan, Francis J. McGovern and his wife Kathleen, Mary McGovern Walsh and her husband Tedmund, James P. McGovern and his wife Mary, John F. McGovern and his wife Sharon, Timothy J. McGovern and his wife Pamela; her cherished grandchildren William J., Matthew J., Christopher, Gabrielle, John P., Nancy, Margaret, Terance, James, Claire, Timothy V., Jill and John W. Peggy is also survived by her beloved sister Elizabeth Ann Sutherland and sisters-in-law Carmen Reilly, Colette Lang, and Jean McGovern, and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 2-4, 7-9 pm at the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Wednesday, August 9, at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 294 Sparta Ave, Sparta. Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Franklin, NJ.
