Nadia Marjorie Pappas

A deeply loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother – Nadia (Marjorie) Pappas (nee Neckay), age 91 ― passed into the hands of the Lord on October 11. She died peacefully, surrounded by her devoted family.
Mrs. Pappas was born in New York City in 1925 and raised in Greenwich Village. She is the daughter of the late Leonid and Olga (nee Belazako) Neckay of Minsk/Belarus, Russia; and NYC. Before her marriage to the late William S. Pappas in 1945, a decorated WWII B-24 pilot, she worked as a secretary at Coty, Inc. She was a homemaker and medical assistant at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, N.J., then moved in 1967 to Allendale, N.J. She retired after 25 years as a medical assistant to Drs. Friedland and Baldino in Wyckoff, N.J. She and her husband later moved to Toms River, N.J. Most recently the two lived in North Wales, Penn., where in 2015 they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
In her retirement Mrs. Pappas enjoyed traveling, reading and being with her family. Her children describe their parents’ marriage as a storybook love: Even after 70 years, their parents’ faces visibly brightened when encountering each other, even from the next room. Mrs. Pappas was a highly ethical, sweet, amusing, selfless and elegant woman who taught many valuable lessons, mostly through actions and a few simple words.
Mrs. Pappas bore four children. She leaves behind three daughters, a son, four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Her family includes Donna Pappas Marshall and her husband Robert of Ambler, Penn.; Maria Pappas-Rogich and her husband Rev. Daniel Rogich of Canton, Ohio; William Pappas Jr. and his wife Linda of Hillsborough, N.J.; and Lorna Pappas Dockery and her husband Patrick of Byram Township, N.J. Grandchildren include Anastasia and Nikolai Rogich, Damon Pappas and Alexander Dockery. She cherished her great-granddaughter, Riley Grace Pappas. All feel extremely blessed to have had this extraordinary woman in their lives. She will be sorely missed and forever loved.
A viewing was held at the William May Funeral Home in North Wales, Penn., followed by the funeral, concelebrated by Fr. Martin Browne and Fr. Daniel Rogich, at St. Mark’s Orthodox Church in Wrightstown, Penn. Internment took place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Maspeth, Queens, N.Y. Memory eternal.
