Paul G. Komsa, a resident of Williamsburg, Va., passed away peacefully on July 8, 2024, with his family by his side.

Paul was born in 1947 in Garfield and was raised in Wayne. He graduated from Wayne High School and Villanova University.

It was during his Villanova years that Paul met his wife, Patsy. Set up on a blind date (to see Janis Joplin in Big Brother and the Holding Company), the two hit it off and spent many summer weekends together with friends and family at the Jersey Shore.

Upon graduation, Paul served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War.

Many love letters later and after returning home from Vietnam, Paul and Patsy started a family in Bala-Cynwyd, Pa.

Paul then had a 35-year career with Ford Motor Credit Co., which also brought them to Sparta and Durham, Conn.

Paul retired in 2007 and spent his retirement with Patsy in Lake of the Woods, Va., and finally in Williamsburg.

Paul and Patsy made lifelong friends everywhere they lived. Their annual Fourth of July party was a popular event for years.

When his daughters were growing up, Paul was proudly involved in their academic and extracurricular activities, and he became well-known (and sometimes feared) by all their friends. By the time the girls were in college, their friends thought Paul was “actually really cool”!

As empty-nesters, Patsy and Paul became involved in Literacy Volunteers of America.

Paul’s friends and family know that Paul loved lingering at the dinner table over good stories, good wine and a good game of “Name that Tune.”

He enjoyed being outdoors and took his family camping, hiking and skiing.

Paul also was known to cut a rug on wedding dance floors.

He and Patsy also loved traveling to visit their daughters and touring with friends.

More recently, when Patsy was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, Paul was Patsy’s primary caregiver, and he worked tirelessly to keep her at home. They had a true bond.

More than anything, Paul loved his family, and they loved him. He will be missed.

Paul is survived by his loving daughters, Jennifer Komsa (Tim) Contrucci and Stephanie Komsa; his cherished grandchildren, Sophie and John Contrucci; and his dear siblings, Susan Komsa, Carol Komsa (George Lees), and Jim (Becky) Komsa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruno and Natalie Komsa, and his beloved wife of 52 years, Patricia (Patsy).

A celebration of life will be held in the near future.
