    — Susan Jane Green passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Kindred Hospital in Dover, NJ. She was 72. Susan was born in Newton, NJ to Walter and Dorothy (Tripp) Green. She resided in Newton until 1972, when she moved to Sparta. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a minor in music from Lebanon Valley College and her Master’s in Education from East Stroudsburg University.She was employed as an 8th grade math teacher by the Sparta Board of Education for 32 years from 1967-1999. Susan was President of the Sparta Education Association from 1972-1974 and 1986-1992. She served as the association’s treasurer for over thirty years. Susan was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma women’s educator sorority, serving as its treasurer for 29 years. She also served as the treasurer of the Sussex County Habitat for Humanity, the American Association of University Women-Sussex County Branch, and the Hamlet Condominium Association. Susan was a Ruby Life Master Bridge Player and the Director of the Sparta Duplicate Bridge Club. Susan was a 59 year member of the First United Methodist Church of Newton, and she was an avid Sussex County substitute church organist for many years. Predeceasing her is a brother, William Green. Surviving Susan is a sister: Carole (Frederick) Monesmith of Byram Township, NJ, two nephews, Carl and Philip Monesmith, and one niece, Debra Pohl Monesmith. Friends and family were invited Friday, Oct. 27, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm to Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Sparta NJ 07871. An 11 am Celebration of Life was held on Saturday at the First United Methodist Church of Newton, followed by interment in Newton Cemetery.
