Retired teacher receives multiple honors

Hamburg — P. Gwendolyn Farber, a retired teacher from the Vernon Township School District, was recently nominated for a second time to Who's Who Among America's Teachers, and will be published in their ninth edition to be released in September. Only five percent of the nation's teachers are honored in each edition, and less than two percent are included in more than one publication. Farber's congratulatory letter stated, "Your students are clearly sending you a message of how special you are, a tribute bestowed on very few teachers. We applaud you on a job well done. You are truly one of our nation's most respected teachers." Farber served the district of Vernon in the Walnut Ridge Primary School for 33 years before retiring in June of 2000. During her career, she had been named as Vernon Township's "Teacher of the Year" and Sussex County's "First Runner Up" in 1978. She was also named to Who's Who in American Education for 1988 by the National Reference Institute in Washington, D.C., and during her retirement year, she was published in their 2000 edition of Who Who's Among America's Teachers. Gwen and husband Frank, also recently retired, are in the process of relocating to central New York. The couple have two children; a daughter Wendy, in Pennsylvania, and a son David, and his family, also of central New York.
