Sparta students graduate from Syracuse University

    Sparta — Kate Higgins and Dan Omelio, both of Sparta, graduated from the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University. Higgins received a bachelors degree in music education, while Omelio received a bachelors degree in music industry. They were among the academic degree candidates honored at the University's 151st commencement ceremony held May 15 in the university's Carrier Dome. Approximately 4,900 degree candidates, along with their families and friends attended the ceremony, presided over by Chancellor Nancy Cantor. The art college strives to provide a nurturing environment, where faculty help students develop their creative and scholarly abilities. The college contains the Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music; the School of Art and Design; the Department of Communication and Rhetorical Studies; the Department of Drama; and the Department of Retail Management and Consumer Studies. Together, students and faculty play a vital role in the academic and cultural life of the university as well as the greater Syracuse community.
