GREEN — Gavin Stobie IV of Boy Scout Troop 184 in Green Township recently celebrated attaining the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor held in the Tranquility United Methodist Church. Gavin entered Cub Pack 295 of Sparta in 2001. As a Cub Scout, he earned every rank and also participated in events such as a sleepover at Liberty State Science Center, cabin and tent camping, the Pinewood Derby, Cake Bakes, and earned his Arrow of Light. n December of 2005, Gavin entered Boy Scout Troop #82 in Sparta where he earned the rank of Tenderfoot. He then switched to Troop 184 in Green Township in July of 2006 where he has since earned 28 merit badges and completed each rank through attaining his Eagle. Highlights include Gettysburg, State Police Camporee, summer camp at Camp Winnebago in Rockaway, countless nights of camping, and hiking trips along the Appalachian Trail. Gavin’s Eagle project involved building a gazebo for the citizens of Bristol Glen, a retirement community in Newton where his maternal grandparents now reside. His project involved the volunteer efforts of more than 30 people — totaling more than 380 man-hours and donations solicited from friends, family, and local businesses. Gavin is currently a junior at Newton High School where he is involved in the high school’s Wind Ensemble, Pep Band, Track, and Peer Leadership.
