Vernon Woman's Club awards two scholarships

The GFWC Vernon Township Woman’s Club annually presents two local high school students, male or female, with $500 scholarships toward their secondary education expenses. Alyssa Morrissey and Erin McLaughlin are the 2011 recipients. Both girls recently graduated from Vernon Township High School and are residents of Highland Lakes. Alyssa Morrissey will be attending Seton Hall University, majoring in speech pathology and special education. Erin McLaughlin will be attending Marist College with a dual major in psychology and criminal justice and plans to pursue a graduate degree in forensic psychology. Girls Career Institute Victoria P. Johnson of Highland Lakes was selected by the GFWC Vernon Township Woman’s Club to attend the 65th Annual Girls Career Institute sponsored by the NJ State Federation of Women’s Clubs. The program was held June 13 through 16 and is designed for girls in their junior year of high school to engage in a unique experience of college life and to learn about various career options. Victoria attended the Institute at Douglass College at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. She met women who have gained prominence in their chosen professions, attended lectures and workshops and she spent time networking and socializing with other Institute participants. She will make a presentation about her experience to the Woman’s Club members at their September meeting.
