West Milford juniors win stock market game

West Milford Jassmin Licona and Meghan Polereczki, juniors at West Milford High School and students in the U.S. History II class, were named first place winners in the state’s New Jersey Stock Market Game. Jassmin and Meghan received their first place award at a ceremony at Pershing LLC, a financial services leader, in Jersey City on June 7. According to Greg Matlosz, their teacher, over 1,000 students in New Jersey competed in the New Jersey Stock Market Game from September through April. The winners were determined based on which team had the most unrealized gains in their accounts. Jassmin and Meghan were invited to speak at the awards service last week. Their speech outlined their investment strategies. They ended up with a 64 percent unrealized gain by trading only stocks with reputable companies rather than taking risks with lesser known companies, said Matlosz. Maybe we should all follow their lead. Jassmin Licona, left, and Meghan Polereczki, both juniors at West Milford High School, received first place in the New Jersey Stock Market Game. Photo provided
