SPARTA — The Junior Woman’s Club of Sparta, a fixture of community and family events in Sparta for over 40 years, is introducing a new way to recognize the club by adopting a new logo and slogan. The project to design the logo and slogan was led by JWCS executive board member Darlene Blandia and new member Emma Matsinger, who utilized her experience as a graphic designer. “This new logo really captures the heart and soul of our club,” said Blandina. “We’re immensely proud of the work we do in the community, and at the same time we meet new people, socialize and have a lot of fun together.” While known for events such as Safety Village, Sparta Day and the Wish Tree, the club is also organized into eight departments that plan smaller social and community minded events. Whether it’s a pottery class or a Thai lunch, a book club or a movie, apple picking with the family or preparing for the annual fifth grade spelling bee, the wide range of activities mean there’s always something going on to serve a wide range of interests. All are invited to join the Junior Woman’s Club at Sparta Books on Monday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. for storytime, music and a craft. The club is also beginning preparations for a brand new fundraiser, Gingerbread for a Cause, a holiday event that will feature a gingerbread display, crafts and entertainment for the kids, a bake sale and a silent auction. JWCS monthly meetings are held at the Lake Mohawk Country Club, in the lower level Mohawk Room, on the first Monday of every month at 7:15 p.m.. For more information email jwcsparta@gmail.com.
