Sparta - Second grade students from Sparta’s Alpine School recently celebrated their own Sparta Day. Mayor Ailish Hambel took part in the opening ceremony, joined by Sparta Police Officer Sue Jespersen, Laura Trent, school principal, Brian Bryne, assistant principal, and members of the Cub Scouts and Brownies for a ribbon cutting ceremony. The second-graders then traveled from classroom to classroom to participate in curriculum activities related to the police station, the post office, the bank, the fire department, the road department, the ambulance squad, the grocery store, and the recycling center. Students also heard a presentation on the history of Sparta from Janine Cerra and Bill Truran, members of the Sparta Historical Society.
