Ambulance squad announces scholarship winners

SPARTA — Sparta Volunteer Ambulance Squad is pleased to announce that Bradley Erickson and Elena Insley are the recipients of the squad’s 2011 Herbert H. Orel Memorial Scholarships. Each year the squad presents the Herbert H. Orel Memorial Scholarships to outstanding Sparta Volunteer Ambulance Squad cadets who are seniors in high school and will go on to college. Orel was a member of the squad for many years and founded the squad’s cadet corps. His work with the young people of Sparta made an impact on many lives, and his life and work are remembered with these scholarships. Bradley Erickson is a 2011 graduate of Sparta High School and will attend Muhlenberg College where he plans to major in business. Elena Insley, also a 2011 Sparta High School graduate, will attend Brandeis University where she plans to major in biology and public policy.
