Anti-drug youth group meets monthly in Newton
Newton - Drug Education for Youth is a youth-led, peer-focused anti-drug coalition with members from every high school in Sussex County. The group meets monthly in Newton to share ideas about living a healthy and drug-free lifestyle. In their efforts to raise awareness of substance abuse in Sussex County, group members plan activities including public service announcements and presentations for younger children. They also volunteer at events, including “Red Ribbon Day” and the “Summit on School Violence.” Monthly meetings include guest speakers, who talk about how their lives have been affected by substance abuse. Members have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss various aspects of substance abuse. Meetings are held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 61 Spring St. (second floor) in Newton. Drug Education for Youth is a part of the Sussex County Coalition for Healthy and Safe Families, a program of the Center for Prevention and Counseling. For information, call 973-383-4787.
